The letter to clubs on the Outbound Application Process page provides information on participation requirements. Clubs sending an outbound student must host an inbound student.
Clubs wishing to participate in the youth exchange program need to recruit and select outbound students. Recruiting students can be difficult. Due to the recruiting timeline described below it is important to get information out in the spring of the school year. This gets the students started thinking about it over the summer. That way they are better prepared to respond to application deadlines at the start of the school year.
Some recruiting ideas that have worked for other clubs include developing a brochure that includes your fall deadlines. Then distributing that brochure within your school(s). Foreign language teachers have been good recruiters. Developing a relationship with them is helpful so they can direct interested students to you for more information.
The District application deadline is October 31 each year. As a Club YEO you have to select a student(s) and insure that all their application materials are provided to the District by that deadline. Most clubs conduct their local interviews in September to allow adequate time for the students to complete their application.
The short (club) application in the downloads list is provided to help you with your local interviews. You are not required to use this application, it is simply provided for your convenience. You will see that there is a place on the second page for you to fill in application instructions and deadlines. You may wish to fill that in and email it to interested students. There are also some interview questions in the download files that you might want to use. Again, they are for your convenience and you are not required to use them.
As soon as you have selected a student please email Dirk Miller the name and email address for that student. We will send the student a link to a website where they will complete their application.
